New drivers & becoming licensed

The Taxi Services Commission is the Victorian government body responsible for the licensing and regulation of the taxi and hire car industry within Victoria.

The Taxi Services Commission website is a valuable resource for taxi drivers, and we recommend any new prospective driver first visit the website and familiarize themselves with the steps involved with becoming an accredited driver.

A recent government sponsored review of the industry has abolished the Melbourne Knowledge test for new and old drivers.

Your minimum requirements are;

  • Holding a Victorian Driving Licence for minimum 6 months
  • Having a Driver health questionnaire completed by your doctor
  • The application for your Drivers Accreditation certificate

For more information click on the links below;

The TSC website also provide multi-lingual brochures that may assist prospective drivers if English is not
your first Language.
